When I assign a SAN Pool to a server, I would like from the server storage be able to see what SAN is linked. May be I'm wrong but I had to add the SAN name to the SAN pool name to make sure I know where my server is getting its disks.

Ok,
I found the answer in the german forum : http://www.i-doit.org/forum/index.php/topic,1179.0.html
Hi I try to use the application/service tab in the server object. I created the Service and the licenses for the service in the Software Tab but when I create a new Application/service I have to browse an application object and the "Objekt-Browser" is empty (I mean I see CMDB/Software,Infrastructure,…. but I cannot select anything).
I'm sure it worked because I have already assigned Application to other servers, but it was before my update to 0.9.8-1
Question 2 How do I had an Operating System to a server, is it an Application/Service ?
Thank you
Patrick
Do you think i-Doit the correct place to document "Outages" ? IMHO because we document all systems, software and dependencies, if we create an "outage" object and link it to an other object we can see all the items affected by the outage.
But outage never occur so why should we document them

Strange,
I found that there is a category and even a group for files in Other/File/"My file"/Files/Current file.
I must say that the handling of the different file versions is not reallly obvious to me…
Wouldn't be good to see in the "files" tab for an object : The different versions, the file category and group ?
Thank you
Patrick
BTW,
About report manager, I did not find nice samples that I can show to my boss to convince him about buying the Pro version.
Thanks
In my environment I have various *Nixes, Windows, Cisco, and others, some file have extensions some not. But my main idea was to be able to produce a report that will show for example all the log files I have to allow me to check if our centralized logging system get them all…
Thank you for your fast response.

Hello,
Wouldn't be great to be able to see the addresses assigned in a "Net" ? I mean, if I fill the IP adress of all my network devices, at the end of the day I get a management of my adress spaces. No ?
Patrick
OK,
I tried and I have one comment and a suggestion :
To give the location I used the "File-Link (extern)" field, in my test case the location was C:\Test\Test.txt. It ended up displaying http://C:\Test\Test.txt, the display is even worst when I am in the list display - each file link is splitted in many parts (I guess it is because of the backslashes in my path).
I sugest the addition of a file-type field, to identify easilly configurations, logs, other
Anyway it is usable like that and congrats for the great work !!!!

Hello,
Something I miss in I-doit is a way to document my logfiles. I explain : All our servers,Os, services, applications,… do create logfiles and I would like to document where these log files are stored and their rotations rules, I don't think the current "Files" option could do the job.
Maybe I can add it manually....
Thanks
Patrick
Hi,
You can assign a device IP address to a network but is there a way to display all the addresses assigned to a network ? When I look at the network object I cannot see any list…
Thanks
Patrick
It's what I do already, but as there is a s/n field for the server object and in the Network Interface I was curiuos why it is not everywhere….
Patrick
Hello,
I think there should be a way to define the way we can write a MAC address, to prevent some addresses to be writen like 1a:2b:3c:4d:5e:6f and other 1A2B3C4D5E6F or even other formats that would prevent a successfull search. Same apply for the FibreChannel WWNs. I was thinking about a configuration option to let eveyone use the format I likes to…

Hello,
I like serial numbers and I think there sould be one field for s/n available (not mandatory) for each object like FC Controller, Network interface, hard disk and even RAM to allow me to trace what was installed where and when…..
What is your opinion on that ?
Thanks for this great software.

Hello,
Is there a way to document which slots are used in a PC/Server ?
I think it is really good to know that in in my server I get 3 PCIe slots, 1 x1 slot and 2 x4 slots and that I have only one x4 slot free, same thing for the memory banks.
I hope my example is clear enough…..
Thanks
Patrick
Hello,
Is there any plans to document cables as well ? What I mean is knowing that it is cable id xxxx that links my server to the switch through patch panel yyyyy and cable id zzzz….
Thanks
Patrick
Hello,
I'm not sure this is the place for enhancement suggestions, but….
I tried to populate the "log. Interface" with my real network data and I found a restriction that sould (I guess) be simple to correct. First I assume that "log. Interface" means "logical interface", if it is the case why can I not use a logical interface to build another one ( only physical ports are listed). I explain :
You can have two physical ports you bundle together to create a LACP channel and on this channel you create several vlans.
May be I'm not using the correct procedure ?
Thanks

Hello,
What would be the best way to document the expansion slots like the server's PCI bus with it's various sockets PCIE x1, x2 ,x4 .. and know what interface card is plugged in which slot, I tried to look in the interfaces but it seems not really planned for that purpose. For example when I want to order a new interface card I have to search in the server specs to know what slot types are available and then go to the server and see what slots are already used,….
More or less the same issue arise with memory slots, in real life you better know what type of memory socket you get and how they are populated when you want to add memory iif you do not want to open the box....
New categories ?
Thanks
